Maine is one of the top states for breweries per capita, with 14 breweries for every 100,000 people. Only Vermont has more, but they don't have the ocean... so we understand that they need a little more support.
It's more than just a lot of breweries, though. Maine also consistently has some of the highest ranked beers in the nation. While many of them are limited production and never cross the border, while you're in Maine, you have the opportunity to try some truly special brews.
No matter what style of beer you enjoy, Maine has you covered. If you like IPA's, of course we have those for you. But there is so much more to explore. Whether it's the best light beer in the country, a stout, a porter, a helles, something Belgian-inspired, and so much more... you'll enjoy the creativity and skill of our local brewers.
Founded in Portland, Maine, by Rob Tod, Allagash Brewing Company strives to make the best Belgian-inspired beers in the world. Since starting in 1995, Allagash has grown to become one of the 50 largest craft breweries in the U.S. (by sales volume). It has earned a spot on Maine’s Best Places to Work list for six years running—and in Outdoor Magazine’s Top 100 places to work in 2017 and 2018.
Austin Street Brewery was founded in 2013 by Jake Austin and Will Fisher. The duo started out as friends and quickly realized their shared passion for craft beer and general imbibing. After several years of homebrewing on Austin Street in Westbrook, they decided to take the plunge. Self-financed and eager to begin, they purchased and assembled a one-barrel brewing system and got to work. Austin Street opened its doors on Industrial Way in Portland in early 2014. Since then, Will and Jake have maintained 100% ownership of their startup. Although this arrangement has its limitations, Jake and Will insist this is the only way for them to stay true to their creative roots while providing the best products possible to consumers and guests of their tasting rooms. Now utilizing 160 barrels of fermentation space between two production facilities, the pair is poised to maintain their position of integrity and quality in the very community that supports them.
Our goal is simple: to create delicious beer and share it with great people. Banded: The name connotes our aspirations of people banding together. As humans, we need to band together to survive, and as an industry, craft beer needs to band together and collaborate to keep beer free and independent. We represent Friendship, Collaboration, and Celebration.
The Horns: Believe it or not, our brewery had a logo before it had a name. Drinking horns remain a ceremonial vessel in many cultures and, to us, they represent the camaraderie and beauty of enjoying a delicious beer with great people.
Our Location: We’re thrilled to be a part of the current revitalization effort for the Pepperell Mill and the city of Biddeford, Maine. Located next to the Saco River, the building is absolutely stunning and infused with character. The mill space has a life of its own – it’s a relic from a bygone era.
Established in 2018, Batson River Brewing & Distilling by partners Tim Harrington and Kevin Lord. They set out to create a quality product that reflected the hard work, craft, and quality Mainers are known. The goal for Batson River Brewing & Distilling was to embody the Maine getaway the minute guests walk through the doors. The smell of a fire greets you, followed by the impressive lodge-style decor and deliciously crafted beer, cocktails, and food. Their flagship location is in Kennebunk, steps from Dock Square, and their new Portland location boasts over 9,000 square feet of stunning dining & tasting room space. Battery Steele Brewery’s operations humbly emerged from a South Portland barn in 2015. Our pursuit of perfection started by refining our signature Flume Double IPA before expanding to the many beers now loved by our loyal customers at both our original tap room on Industrial Way in Portland and our kitchen and bar in Wells.
Battery Steele Brewery and Tap Room on Industrial Way is where the magic begins. Our brewers meticulously select the highest quality ingredients to perfect a range of drafts that satisfy all palates. Our recipes and processes ensure innovative, world-class craft beer.
Baxter Brewing Company has been a Maine craft beer institution since 2011. Located in the historic Bates Mill in Lewiston, Baxter Brewing established its reputation by brewing with adherence to Maine’s longstanding ethos: hard work, a gritty attitude, and unwavering respect for the land. We were the first brewery in New England to exclusively package our beer in eco-friendly cans, and we continue to pioneer efforts that reduce our carbon footprint while delivering quality, approachable beer for the Mainer in all of us.
Owners Andrew Sanborn and Wesley Hewey worked at a local fabrication shop for several years working on tanks and equipment for local breweries. With this experience and the love of beer, they decided to create their own system and brew their own beer. They renovated a section of, third owner, Stacy Strattard’s barn and built a home brewing facility. Over the past few years, they continued to experiment and fine tune recipes. Their passion for brewing craft beer led them to the next level to establish Birchwood Brewing in 2017, and in February of 2019 they opened their taproom in the Gray, Maine.
Birchwood Brewing specializes in classic American Ales and Lagers with emphasis on flavor and clarity, brewed in equipment built 100% by the owners. Birchwood will have rotating taps that will include three flagship beers: brown, wheat and IPA.
Bissell Brothers was born out of a desire to make something from our deepest interests and passions that would become a separate entity; greater than the individual sums of its creators. We believe that great beer comes from a commitment to be constantly challenging the perceptions of what different styles of beers can actually become. The second we settle, the second we say that a beer has been taken as far as it can go, we start losing. The proverbial mountaintop exists only in our minds. Always be climbing, always be pushing forward. The next, and equally important commitment, is to the process. There is serenity to be found in even the most menial, repetitive task. There are always ways to improve yourself and your methods, hiding just below the surface. The parties, jokes, and fun we seem to be having? We have created our own world in which to reside, and we love sharing it with all those that want to partake. I promise you, there is no greater joy, professionally. The painfully fleeting span of the human life is much too short and precious to spend it being anything less than the best you can possibly be in your chosen vocation. We love the work we do, for its own sake. We spend every day trying to get better, and we treat the opportunity to give this beer to the people of Maine every week as the gift that it is. Thank you for drinking.
Augusta, Maine was first inhabited by English settlers from the Plymouth Colony in 1629 as a trading post on the Kennebec River. The settlement was known by its Indian name—Cushnoc, meaning “”head of tide.””
In 1754, a blockhouse named Fort Western (now the oldest wooden fort in America), was built at Cushnoc on the eastern bank. It was intended as a supply depot for Fort Halifax upriver, as well as to protect its own region.
In October 2017, on the western bank of the river, Cushnoc Brewing Co. was “born on the Kennebec,” named as a tribute to Augusta’s history, with the blockhouse as our logo.
Definitive Brewing was formed in 2017 by a group of friends and family all with ties to Lake Cobbosseecontee in Manchester, ME. To many, ‘Definitive’ means to reach a conclusion decisively and with authority. At Definitive Brewing we encompass this meaning as we strive to make amazing beer, continually innovating, determined to make each batch better than the last. Our name serves as a reminder to us every day that our beer will never be perfect, but that we must strive for perfection in order to provide our customers with the most memorable drinking experience possible.

Maine Beer Company was established in 2009 by two brothers, David and Daniel Kleban. From day one, they knew they wanted Maine Beer Company to be a certain kind of company, and set a mission to do what’s right no matter what. That vision includes donating 1% of Maine Beer Company’s gross annual sales to environmental nonprofits, providing generous benefits for employees, and investing in a solar energy project for the brewery, and of course making great beer.
Maine Beer Company is located in Freeport, Maine and specializes in hop-forward, American ales.
Since Mast Landing Brewing Co. was established in 2015, our mission has always been to produce exceptional craft beer in a socially conscience way.
Oxbow is an American farmhouse brewery founded in Newcastle, Maine, and now offering two additional locations in Portland, Maine and Oxford, Maine. Oxbow beer is brewed in a small farmhouse brewery located in rural Maine and began operating in 2011. The name Oxbow is inspired by the bends in these rivers, the Dyer in particular, which features stunning horseshoe-shaped oxbows where the river covers tremendous ground to travel what could otherwise be a very short linear distance. We employ a similar approach when crafting our beers, taking months or years to create a beverage that is commonly produced in a matter of days. We specialize in Belgian-style farmhouse ales, saisons, Biere de Gardes and mixed-fermentation beers.
Rising Tide Brewing Company is an independent, family-owned brewery that anchors Portland, Maine’s vibrant East Bayside neighborhood. We are guided by creative flavors, quality, consistency, community, and a love of all things outdoors. Rising Tide supports our farmers, using local ingredients in every beer.

SoMe Brewing Company was founded by Father and Son, Dave and David Rowland and opened its doors in December of 2013. From the beginning, SoMe has focused on crafting beers for everyone. As our vacations always revolved around visiting breweries, we quickly realized we enjoyed the ones most that had a variety of styles and would satisfy everyone in the group. After all, “Variety is the Spice of Life.” So we adopted the same model. Sure, we LOVE our hoppy beers (and there are always a few on), but we also love Stouts, Pilsners, Sour beers, and on and on. We pride ourselves in not being a one trick pony and hope that you will come in and try a few (or all) of our 11 rotating taps. Take a growler or 4 pack of cans home and share with good friends and family.
When we started Well & Good Brewing Company, we wanted to create an inviting space that was cozy, full of character, and welcoming to everyone. But beyond that we wanted to focus on doing something good. That’s why we give back to local nonprofits with every beer we sell – and you get to choose where your contribution goes!
